Melmac MW2 - Direct hits MW1

TILBURG | October 6, 2020
October 6, 7:15 PM. Melmac MW2 is not even on the field yet, let alone the baskets, but the Voltreffers are ready to go. They have their championship match and think they can beat Melmac MW2 for a while. Last time the result was very disappointing (23-8), so Melmac prefers not to talk about this anymore. October 6, 7:30 PM. Sidney and Carien (TOPPERS) have already put up the posts and benches and the rest of the team has just showed up. Matthijs is stuck in a traffic jam, he comes from Oosterhout, just like the Voltreffers, but has managed to get to Tilburg later than them. Nathan tests his Dutch skills and shouts 'GOODENEVENING' with conviction, this man will speak Dutch fluently by the end of the year.
October 6, 8 p.m. Lieke, our referee, starts the match. Matthijs decides that it would be useful to wear a competition shirt and Amy, Dylan and Nienke start the livestream. Both Melmaccers and Voltreffers followed the match from their couch at home and we immediately had 10 viewers, and Melmac was quickly ahead thanks to Manon and Robin. Good start to an exciting match. Melmac has no substitutions and the opponent changes so much in the meantime that no one actually knows what the starting line-up was. Apparently they were afraid of their championship, and rightly so, because the mixed midweek team has recently developed into a top-performing, fanatical and, above all, fun team. After a few nice goals from Nathan and Sidney, among others, we went into halftime with an equal score. In the meantime, our 10 viewers on the livestream appear to be entertained by none other than Dylan, this palette man is apparently a talented sports commentator. Facts about Oosterhout: did you know that Marlies Dekkers comes from Oosterhout? To giveaways: someone gets a signed shirt from Nathan? This man arranges it all for our viewers.
We resume the match and soon Melmac is ahead again, 10-9. We can still win this. Unfortunately, the game in attack does not go as hoped, the balls do not want to go in and that with more than enough opportunities. The defense keeps it close and manages to intercept and catch many balls. To say that the defense ultimately defended for 15 minutes in a row is an understatement, but in the end the score is 11-9. Sidney and Carien cheer, finally attacking. In the meantime, the live stream has gone out at a score of 11-10, apparently this can only be done for an hour on Instagram. Indignant messages come in on WhatsApp. Including Fenna's: “Jesus Amy, what a CLIFFHANGER”. And it was also a mega cliffhanger, because after two short attacks from Melmac the score is already 11-11. The opponent knows, with only 1 minute left on the clock, that passing the ball around is a good way of stalling. The referee whistles, 11-11, the Direct Hits are champions. Congratulations again, Direct Hits! But I think I speak for everyone when I say that we haven't made it easy for you.
